These ranks shall be used in measuring the level of in-character abilities, notably in profiles. Note that a person can be called a "master", in the show or in the roleplay, but not technically be of "Master" rank according to this list.
I ~ Beginner
The beginner is still learning the basics, and should not try to use the ability seriously or without supervision.
II ~ Intermediate
To be intermediate is to know the basics, but not to know them well enough to begin anything more advanced; someone at this stage is competent but should be careful if testing his ability against someone of greater skill.
III ~ Advanced
Many people at this level are called "master", and with good reason; they have the foundational principles down pat, and have learned many more difficult techniques. They even have begun to develop their own personalised style.
IV ~ Master
To be a master is to know well all techniques, basic and advanced, and to know the style so well that it has become part of one's being. Many at Master level have invented their own techniques, and are fit to begin training apprentices.
V ~ Elite
The elite are the masters of the masters. Born with exceptional talent, they have honed it through years of use; many are now famous throughout the world.
VI ~ Divine
This, the absolute pinnacle of achievement, is simply beyond most people, no matter how hard they train. Only a handful of people in a generation can achieve the title "divine" in any given discipline. (Note: For this reason, no original characters may be given the rank "divine" in any skill.)
